Volunteers

Behind the screens of the Dutch Boogie Woogie Association, the following volunteers, in alphabetical order, are involved:

The dance career of Alex began in 2014 with Boogie Woogie. Early on, he entered a dance competition just for fun. It didn’t go very well, but later his enthusiasm and perseverance earned him podium finishes and titles at competitions in France, Switzerland, and Austria. This qualified him for the World Championships.

In 2023, Alex moved to the Netherlands to work as a professor of electron microscopy at the University of Groningen. Inspired by the local Lindy Hop scene, he also decided to explore the world of Lindy Hop and social dancing. However, Boogie Woogie (competition) dancing remains his greatest passion.

Maksym has regularly participated in international Boogie Woogie competitions, achieving several podium finishes. He also conducts various workshops and takes part in boogie/swing dance events to promote these dance styles.

Osman and Renate have been dancing together since their teenage years; starting with ballroom and Latin, but both developed a passion for swing dances. Because of that their wedding’s first dance was a slow Boogie.

They compete their Boogie Woogie competitions in Belgium, as they live close to the border. The results speak for themselves: several victories at the Belgian Championships. Recently they participated in their first international competition: the WRRC World Cup in Stuttgart.

In addition to competing, they teached Boogie dance classes at a dance school in Geldrop and lead various workshops across the country. Whenever they hear Boogie music, they just have to dance. They hope you’ll get just as excited!

Sven is an enthusiastic Boogie Woogie dance instructor in Groningen. He is affiliated with several dance schools: Let’s Swing and Sugarspin. In addition, he is a co-founder of Swingtonic, a dance community that brings together Swing and Blues dancing.

Sven invests a lot of time in developing the curriculum and teaching methods for his dance classes. The focus is primarily on the fundamental aspects of dancing and how to truly make them your own.

Tanne began dancing in 2012 and became a Rock ’n’ Roll dance instructor. In 2016, during Herräng in Sweden, she was introduced to Boogie Woogie for the first time and fell in love with this dance style. Since then, she has hoped for – and contributed to – more Boogie Woogie in the Netherlands. For example, she helps dancers who are interested in transforming their Rock ’n’ Roll skills into Boogie Woogie.
